Design of the week. Elizaveta Ershova. A poster for the film “The Martian”
The best design of the week is a poster for Ridley Scott’s science-fiction blockbuster “The Martian”.
By Elizaveta Ershova, Graphic and Digital Design programme.
A little about the plot:
The Ares 3 mission to Mars was forced to abandon the planet mid-operation because of an approaching sandstorm. Engineer and biologist Mark Watney’s suit was damaged during the storm. Believing him dead, the rest of the crew evacuated, leaving Mark behind alone.
When he comes round, Watney discovers that there is no communication with Earth, but that the habitat module is fully operational. He sets about finding a way to survive on the food, vitamins, water and air he has left for the four years until the next mission, Ares 4, arrives.
It is worth noting that the poster was produced in the Swiss style of design, with every element brought into the composition through photo collage and typography.
